If you are traveling to Saudi, you might find yourself confused on what to order at a traditional Saudi Breakfast joint. My top 2 recommendations are – Foul and Adas.
What is Foul and Adas?
Foul is a savory breakfast dish traditionally made of Fava Beans cooked down with cumin and other spices. Eaten with fresh traditional Tamees bread is to die for.
Adas means lentils, and can often be known as a soup or a thick texture like the Foul and also is eaten with traditional Tamees bread. This is personally my favorite dish.
Saudi breakfast spots will often be found open from 6am to 11:30am and then close down for the lunch hours and reopen at 6pm to 12/12:30. These dishes give you a taste of Saudi that hit the right spot.
Things to search on Google to help you find these breakfast options:
Google search the word breakfast in Arabic : إفطار
Or specifically search on google the name of these two dishes in Arabic
Foul : فول Adas: عدس
The traditional bread is either called Tamees or Kubaz
Tamees: تميس Kubaz: خبز
Each city will have a corner shop that the locals go to or a fancy one. Explore for whichever one you want 😉 Enjoy an amazing breakfast while traveling through Saudi Arabia!
